Do I really have a Purpose in Life?
Before I go on, I want to address this doubt: Do I really have a purpose in life?
It’s common to feel dejected, disillusioned and frustrated after having searched for purpose (perhaps fruitlessly) for a while.
The answer to this question is a resounding yes.
Each person born on this planet has come with a unique set of skills and fluencies that were always meant to be put to use in the service of others.
It’s not uncommon for these skills to be lying dormant in the form of hobbies or unexplored passions.
The itch you’re feeling for finding purpose in life comes from wanting to discover and develop these hidden talents, and knowing deep down that ultimately, you’re meant to.

What about everything I’ve built so far?
The next level of resistance we commonly face is the fear of having to let go of everything you’ve built so far.
Nothing in your life has been an accident.
Everything you’ve built, learnt and experienced thus far has been to prepare you for the next part of your journey.
Rest assured that the time, energy and money you spent getting to where you are have not and will not go to waste. You will be able to put your knowledge to use in a more meaningful and fulfilling way going forward.
How to Find your Purpose in Life: A Step-by-Step Process
Now, let’s dive into how to find purpose in life, shall we?
Step 1) Jot down your hobbies, interests and unexplored passions. These are your seeds and each one of them leads to a possible future where you’re more aligned, fulfilled and at ease.
Step 2) Pick one passion and explore. Use your free time to sincerely explore one thing on your list. The key here is to take your time and play full out. Don’t hold yourself back or judge yourself for being interested in something that contradicts the image you’ve built up of yourself.
Step 3) Reflect on your experience. Dump your thoughts and experience into your journal. You’re looking to identify one of three possible realizations with each passion you explore:
I don’t like this as much as I thought I would. – If this is what your inner voice tells you about the passion you’re exploring, it means it’s time to move on. This doesn’t mean you failed or wasted energy; it means you’re eliminating noise and getting closer to finding your purpose in life.
This brings me peace of mind. – If an activity you’re exploring doesn’t seem to be leading you anywhere but brings you peace of mind, make this activity a regular part of your life. This small oasis you’ve found will bring you profound peace when you need it the most. Nurture this pastime.
This… this could lead me to my purpose in life. – When you come across something that just fits, you will know. There may be surface level doubts, but your heart will know you’re going in the right direction. In fact, fear and hesitation can indicate that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. When you find this feeling, prioritize this activity and see how you can take your exploration to the next level. For example, if you’ve been attending yoga class here and there and something inside you is kindled, take it to the next level by committing to a regular practice and perhaps a teacher training program.

Step 4) Iterate. It’s okay to not find something that clicks immediately and it’s okay for something to feel good in the beginning and then start to feel bland later on. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until you find the things that light you up. Remember, you’re not wasting time by not having the answers right off the bat. Allow your journey to unfold in its own time and know that there is no such thing as failure – only information.
Step 5) Spend more time doing the things you love. What may start out as a simple hobby may open unimaginable doors for you. By indulging in the things that you love, you’ll raise your vibration and open yourself up to peace, healing and finally finding purpose in life.
The Secret to Finding Purpose in Life
There are two mindsets for this process to truly work for you. The first is willingness to step out of your comfort zone and the second is the willingness to be honest with yourself.
Every time we step into unfamiliar territory in life, there will be resistance in the form of fear, uncertainty, hesitation, vulnerability. Many uncomfortable emotions may bubble up from within, and it’s so easy to freeze, turn back and stay in your comfort zone.
The truth is that staying in your comfort zone is what has kept you feeling disconnected, misunderstood and stuck in life.
If you truly wish to find purpose in life, the secret is to learn how to regulate your emotions so that when resistance inevitably comes up, you’re able to move through it.
It’s normal to be afraid, to hesitate and to be full of doubt. But if you want to make progress in your search for more in life, the key is to move through those emotions.
Let your Intuition Guide you
The connection you have with yourself will guide you more than the advice you hear from people around you.
Only your inner voice can tell you what feels right and what doesn’t.
Your intuition or inner wisdom comes from a place deep inside you that is beyond your intellect. This is why a lot of the times the messages that you’ll receive from inside are not necessarily the most logical, practical or easy options.
And though these things might not be things that you consciously choose for yourself, they’ll likely lead you to the answers you’re seeking.
