As Sage Vasishta so beautifully said, your internal and external worlds are in a constant tug of war for your attention.
If you’re here, you’ve likely felt that tug – in being pulled toward the pursuit of material pleasures and at the same time, craving something deeper and more meaningful in life.
Maybe you’ve caught fleeting glimpses of peace, happiness, and fulfillment in your life—moments that felt like everything clicked. But no matter how hard you try to recreate those feelings, they seem to slip through your fingers, leaving you searching for something more.
In this post, I’m going to share the bittersweet truth about why the purpose of life has eluded you so far and how to finally step into the life of purpose, peace of mind and deeper meaning you’ve been longing for.

Is there a Purpose of Life?
Each stage of our lives has a purpose – to grow, educate ourselves, contribute to society, raise the next generation of humans, and so on.
But is there an overarching purpose of life?

Why were you born at this particular time in history? What are you meant to do here? Who are you?
If you’ve been contemplating these questions, you’ve begun your spiritual awakening journey and are ready to discover what the purpose of life is.
Society’s Version of the Purpose of Life
There is a common path that is tread through life: go to school, go to work, get married, have children.
At each stage, there are certain ideals that are considered “desirable” that we ought to aim for: beauty, intelligence, productivity, family, abundance, etc.
Societal conditioning, expectations and pressures push us into these endless pursuits, convincing us that they’re the ultimate purpose of life.
However, the search for more in life will ultimately reveal that achieving these ideals will not provide you with the answers you’re looking for.
Pursuing Freedom through Money
Let’s say you’ve transcended all these desires and surface-level successes and are instead seeking freedom in the form of making more money.
This is a common trap.
Money is falsely associated with freedom. While having more money may grant you some degree of financial freedom and allow you to have certain experiences and luxuries, it will not provide the inner freedom that you’re seeking.
Instead, it will spawn the desire for more money, fear of losing your money and doubts about the intentions of people around you.
More money does not equal more happiness or freedom.
Money is a means to survive in this world. It is not the purpose of life in itself.

The Bittersweet Truth about the Purpose of Life
Your external pursuits are surface level. None of these pursuits will be able to bring you the inner freedom and fulfillment you crave.
This inner freedom can only come from within.
Your Soul’s Version of the Purpose of Life
In the tug-of-war for your attention, your soul craves connection.
Your soul craves to be free from the weight of the world, self-limiting beliefs and karmas that it has collected over the years.
Your soul craves nothing but for you to come home to your authentic self.
This is the true purpose of life. When every step you take in the external world is mirrored by steps taken toward your inner Truth you will find the purpose, peace of mind and deeper meaning in life that you’re seeking.

The Journey Home
Your search for the purpose of life is not just a search for something to fill your time with – it’s a search for a place to call home. This home is not a physical place; it’s a state of being where you will feel like you can finally put everything down and truly rest.
The path home is as simple and difficult as letting your idea of home descend from the intellect validating that yes, this is where you live, to the heart telling you that yes, you’re home.
Your home is both the destination and the path, and while the path is long, the destination lies in every step.
Know that you’ve been on this path before and that what you seek is seeking you.
It’s time to come home.
